Through a recent mental health session it has brought back many many many flashbacks and nightmares of what I went through. So to help overcome this I have volunteered to go to my previous High School and talk about my journey and experience in a Domestic / Sexual violent relationship during my GCSEs aged 14 and how it took me until I was 30 to qualify as a Paediatric Nurse and to inspire people to never give up on your dreams regardless of age or circumstances. I also neeeeed to get out of the house and I stumbled across this amazing challenge. To help raise awareness and funds for helping women, men and children to escape domestic violence. I will be walking 56 miles in February to help this charity but also to help my own mental health and any donations would be much appreciated. I'm raising money for Refuge and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate £1 or £10. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support. I've included information about Refuge below. In the last lockdown I decided to teach myself now to knit via YouTube, and took it upon myself to create Harry Potter inspired scarfs for me and my friends. I found it surprisingly calming and kept my thoughts from constantly spiralling. So I'm now carrying on making a Ravenclaw inspired scarf for my little sister. What selfcare have you been up too? Yesterday I started my new medicinal journey onto Vraylar and off of Abilify. I’m still feeling depressed along with having mood shifts and cycling mo

Yesterday I started my new medicinal journey onto Vraylar and off of Abilify. I’m still feeling depressed along with having mood shifts and cycling moods. My psychotic symptoms are starting to creep in, but hopefully they’re not here to stay, or will be corrected by the higher switch of Vraylar in a week or so. From my research it takes about 1 to 2 weeks to see a difference, so in the meantime I’m just trying to hang on. . In tandem with the medicine switch, I’m also working on getting my vitamin D up and eating healthier. One good health related thing going on is I no longer have hypothyroidism! So that’s a plus! I’m trying to make a better effort to journal in journals that I have and to keep up with my mental health apps I have on my phone. I’m TRYING to take time for myself but that’s hard for me, as I feel like I always have to be go, go, go! . Life is busy as Emma has outside therapy (speech and PT) twice a week which means driving 30 minutes away each time (but it’s more than worth it.) She really enjoys her therapists and is very lovey with them. Emma is still waiting to get into OT, and then ABA therapy that I still have to look into. Emma is still receiving the awesome therapies from the school too on top of the outside therapy. . Trying to figure out where to go school and career wise and feeling kinda lost. My writing isn’t satisfying lately, and my last piece on The Mighty was a bit of a flop in my opinion. It’s frustrating because I just want to help people through my writing and otherwise. Hopefully soon I’ll have some clarity and be able to have a new perspective on everything. . I thought my journey was over after dealing with sepsis. I even did my part and got my A1C back to a normal range for my diabetes. Little did I know that I would face intense agonizing pains, gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and medical gaslighting.💔 I’ve lost so many jobs despite graduating in 2021. There’s been so much discrimination against my chronic illness. I’ve been told that I am too young to be this sick and that I should stop searching for an answer. I even had an employer force me to stay at work with a fever, sweating, and intense stomach pains otherwise I would risk being terminated. (I got story-times for this later!) 😣 Even at my most vulnerable moments God had my back. When I had zero dollars to my name, got ridiculed for my illness, tested for cancer, wanted to drop out of grad school, and crying my eyes out day by day… God provides. The doctors were so amazed I didn’t feel any pain when I had sepsis. My heart rate was in the 170s and I ran a fever of 103 but still fought with a smile on my face. 🥺 It’s just my personal life’s journey. I’ve hidden away my hospital bracelets in a drawer with hopes that one day I can toss them in a fire, forget about the past, and be satisfied with any diagnosis. Today's #amwriting: I've always written candidly about life with mental illness and being a mother because it's important others never feel like they are alone as so many of us have felt over the years. My writing has also been healing for me, especially these last few years, because it's helped me sort out emotions. For the sake of transparency, I know my mental health started tanking again last year but we also experienced so much growth that I kept pressing on. My brain is exhausted tho. I have been attacking so many things in therapy with A for the last 6yrs(this month is 6yrs!) and last year we came to the conclusion, store bought seratonin needed to be added back to my arsenal of tools to help me stay well. I put it off for a year. I was terrified. The last time I sought help from a psychiatrist, he never listened and kept upping my doses for meds that clearly weren't helping me. My fear of parenting solo and starting meds to end up like a zombie petrified me to my core. Even with that fear, I took the plunge. I have stopped and started so many jobs and projects. I can't remember appointments. I don't dare to put items in my house that they normally wouldn't be or I'll lose them for months. And I crack so quickly now emotionally because I'm always on edge and overwhelmed. My new psychiatrist listened. She heard me on my diagnosis of ADHD, DID, PTSD, anxiety, and depression and to respect the alters and keep me from going manic, she prescribed the proper things needed to try and see if it was a good fit for my moods before we tackled the adhd side. The respect she gave me helped ease my anxiety, no one is out to control me through meds anymore. It will be several more weeks till I know just how much it's helping, but I will say, I have had two nights of sleep in a row I didn't even know I needed. Or didn't even know that was what sleep should be. I'm just glad I've taken this step again, cause store bought seratonin mixed with therapy is what is needed for me. And I'm so glad to have the hope to be able to function better inside a job as well as the relationships I hold with everyone around me. Now to keep pushing forward in healing. 🖤🖤🖤

I have been inspired by @dralexgeorge #postyourpill campaign and his recent post about recognising that medication is just one aspect of treatment. Therapy is treatment. Therapy is evidenced based. Therapy is science. Just as people struggle to talk about them taking medications, they also find it difficult to feel comfortable opening up about going to therapy. I personally have been to therapy and it was truly one of the best decisions I made. In truth, I have been to therapy more than once in my life. I quite like to think of going again as ‘MOT’. I don’t necessarily need to have a problem to go, but rather to check in, to reflect on my experiences and to reaffirm I am ok. What about you? You don’t need to have been to therapy to be involved. You could tag a therapist you know or follow online. Let’s generate conversations and reduce stigma towards therapy. I ask that you please like, comment and share this on your social media platforms. So many of us who have been diagnosed with a “mental illness” have been told that we have a chemical imbalance that is causing our symptoms. (I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have since recovered- others have done the same) However, the chemical imbalance explanation is only a theory and has never been proven. That’s pretty important information, I’d say…. But if you don’t have a chemical imbalance- what does that mean for you? I know what it meant for me. But this is potentially a huge question with gigantic implications- and could mean different things to different people. All kinds of thoughts and feelings could come up. Let them come. Let them all just be there. Hard moments, slips, days when you struggle to use the tools you’re learning to live a healthier life…this is a part of the process. But just because you had a rough moment - yes, even if it’s a long moment - doesn’t mean your progress disappeared. You are still further in your journey than you were before, you know more now, and can get back moving and pick up much closer than where you were before. People say it because it’s true: progress isn’t linear! Give yourself some self compassion and do the next best thing. I'm not going to lie, I'm struggling to find gratitude this week. Tested positive yesterday for covid and flu b, my job offer I have been sonexcited about was rescinded, toxicity has creeper back into my life with certain people and my illness has me involuntarily disconnected from my kiddos. I'm telling myself the job wasn't meant to be, I suppose. But I'm pretty down. I know everything has purpose, even the bad, but right now I'm just going to state the circumstances suck.

Holy Cow Ay Que Joderse🐮 ❄️ Day 3 of my happiness journey. I’m learning to embrace all the good when they’re present. Yesterday was the first time in so many years that I’ve seen snow. I couldn’t help but dance and rejoice as it fell. I felt like my inner child came out to play. It filled my heart with so much happiness. 🤗 ☃️ It truly is the small things in life that make life worth every penny. We become so connected to other things that we disconnect from the things that truly matter. We should really learn to find time to get away from the things that distract us from living in the now because now has so many beautiful things to offer if we just give it the time of day. So go out there enjoy the snow, sand, water, etc just learn to be present because you’ll learn so much about yourself in that moment. Here’s an important question to ask yourself before we get too far into the new year… What markers do you use to track progress with your mental health? 🧠 When we’re at the gym we have things like weight or rep increases. When we’re running we have things like length, distance, and pace. When we’re learning new knowledge we have testing. When we’re working on physical health concerns we have blood work. But what do we do about mental health? One could argue there aren’t objective measures for this type of health…but I’d say we have what I call “subjective objective” measures 📉 This is the shift or improvement seen compared to your baseline or the changes from where you’ve started (at the time you’ve decided to change things up a bit) Here are some markers I like to use below: ✨standardized questionnaires for anxiety//depression (before and after treatment) ✨ self-reflection of internal differences ✨asking a trusted party for noticeable changes ✨ of days without *symptom* compared to before ✨changes in self esteem and overall perception on life ✨language shifts ✨content of our conversations None of these things state perfection. They don’t protect you from negative things happening. We don’t pay too much attention to what you’d call a “set back” unless there’s a real teachable moment in there. You already know that working with your mental health is a wave of peaks and valleys🌊 But there are ways to gauge how these waves are changing over time. And if they’re not, it’s time to change something up (if that’s what you’re looking for).
