1 YEAR SOBER!!! Was going to keep this to myself, but I hate how society disregards this topic and if this can help anybody else who struggles with substance abuse then thats great. Last year after an injury which kept me from doing alot of the things that i love doing and bring me lots of peace i went straight to coping the only way i ever new which was drugs wasn't long before i was about to do something stupid, that God splapped me in the face made me take a real hard look at myself , my goals , my dreams and what i wanted in life and I realized that, that was it for me had to live a sober life. So thankful to be the healthiest , strongest and most confident I've ever been 🙏. If anybody struggles with this reads this then know your not alone and that hiding it will do you no good and talking about it to someone is the best thing you can do. #health #mentalhealth #sobriety

Road trip reality. Listen I am an expert at faking it. Get your mind out of the gutter. I can smile and pretend I am excited about our trip but behind that - in my head is a full on war. What is the war in my mind like. I will try to articulate, but this is not easy for me. I am constantly trying to keep myself out of a full blown panic attack. The questions my mind starts to yell at me from within. Will I make it? What if right now you have a heart attack? You know you are over an hour away from home? Then your body joins in, all part of the battle plan. My heart starts racing. My back starts to pull. Then comes the weird cold sweat. The pit in your throat that drops into your stomach starts. I start to pray. Lord I know you are with me I repeatedly tell myself. You won't give me more than I can handle. You give me a sound mind. More sweat, I may pass out. I can't breathe. Now I am going to throw-up. I start to counter attack with telling myself repeatedly Cheryl you are not crazy. You can get through this. Remember to breathe. All while trying to manage the millions of thoughts coming after you. And wait my husband is sitting next to me. So happy to finally leaving the house and getting away. I can't let him down. Next is just as bad as the attack battle. Next is the shame. The guilt. The self loathing of how much you are a burden. But that's another story. A very long one. Ut for now that is my answer of what is going on behind that smile in a daily basis. The reason I share little shreds of my soul is to help others. My prayer for you is to not let it control your life. Go to counseling and say it all out loud. Be honest about it and find the whys. Keep praying and trusting God, He really does listen. What if we hadn’t been gifted a message of shame by the church of many of our childhoods, that taught us we were appalling to god because of our sinful nature? How differently would we have turned out without this heaped upon our shoulders at a young age? I can only imagine BUT I can make that a reality for my children. Spirituality can be a beautiful gift if it’s handed carefully. It must be given with the understanding that how you tell children their “creator” thinks of them affects how they feel about and view themselves. Wonder is a beautiful thing. Some prefer certainty, and in its absence would create it where it doesn’t exist. I’d rather tell my children that we think but we don’t know, we wonder but we don’t presume. I love to ASK children what THEY think about all of this, the universe, spirit, and life. It’s amazing the beauty and wisdom that comes from little hearts. It is a much greater crime to harm a child’s self-perception than so say, “I don’t know,” or “Maybe.” Choosing certainty out of a sense of fear only breeds more fear, not safety. And definitely not peace. The fear of hell, damnation and separation motivates many parents to pass on a gospel of sin and shame and sacrifice. But this hell is only a rumor, supported by weak sources and misrepresentation. Is it more important to protect a child’s healthy sense of self, or should churches be allowed to weigh them down with sin on the off-chance some story might be true? It’s a scary, powerful and popular story…But that doesn’t make it any truer. Especially not compared with the truth we know about childhood development, the importance of safety and loving attachment and the detrimental effects when that is missing. Why don’t churches and their leaders err on the side of caution and choose to be open to wonder and unknowing rather than create safety in human doctrines and theologies? Fear. Power. Control. But the greatest of these is fear.

Nearly every morning Grace is out the door by 7:40 am to catch her bus. There have been days when the bus has been over 10 minutes late which doesn’t seem long until you factor in that some of those mornings the temperature was below zero. In the last week, Grace has also had a couple of close calls. Barely getting out the door to catch her bus. The driver has actually stopped to wait for her after he’s passed her bus stop because he’s seen her running down our driveway. It isn’t often, but on occasion, Grace will ask me if I will take her to Starbucks and then take her to school. This morning was one of those mornings. It was -9 degrees before windchill and I knew Grace had stayed up late the night before preparing for finals so I agreed to it. We were sitting in the living room talking when we heard her bus rumbling down the street and come to a halt at her bus stop. The bus then sounded odd so we looked outside to discover that her bus driver was turning the corner extremely slow and looking up at our house. I gushed with love and appreciation for her bus driver and I said, “you’ve had so many close calls in the last week, Grace, that I think he’s trying to give you a chance to not miss the bus.” There are so many protocols, policies, and procedures these days that sometimes it feels like we're more focused on following arbitrary rules than remembering that we’re all still human, and sometimes we need a little extra support, comfort or time to effectively navigate our day. I love that her bus driver didn’t just fly by our house, but that he slowed down and looked for her just in case all she needed was a little extra time. ✨ Day 21 of 365 days or purpose, passion and pleasure. ☀️ Photo: Grace sent me this photo of the sun rising while waiting for her bus a few weeks ago.

CHERRY BAKEWELL PROTEIN CHEESECAKE 🍒 i ate the whole cheesecake as a meal but you can choose to slice it if you wish & store in the fridge for up to three days !! ! PREHEAT OVEN TO 200° ! 2 SCOOPS PROTEIN (i used @phdnutrition cherry bakewell) 2 EGGS 1 EGG WHITE 130G YOGHURT 500G OF QUARK 1 TBSP CREAM CHEESE 1 TBSP GINGER N CINNAMON 1 TBSP ALMOND EXTRACT FEW FROZEN CHERRIES that's it. simply mix it all up, no milk needed and place into a baking dish or mould and bake for around half an hour ish. it should appear slightly jiggly with a firm top BUT poke through because we don't want no uncooked eggs!! once you take it out, let it cool down before setting in the fridge overnight. take it out, carefully knife the edges, and plonk onto a plate. topped with strawberry spread mixed with cherry jam, @nushfoods cream cheese mixed with @myprotein toffee flavdrops on the sides ft frozen cherries & almond flakes because let's not fear nuts! also topped with a @skinnybakery cherry bakewell cake (': today was quite fun, still feeling up & down regarding my body BUT my back is finally healing up i think!! nervous because my mum wants to head on a holiday & of course, that's a massive challenge for me regarding my ed, food, hotel buffet, the gym etc etc - not to mention the stress beforehand of how our bodies appear, which is so upsetting mentally. but i know if i don't agree to going now, then when?
